Gazetteer

This branch has published the three District Gazetteers viz, the Khasi Hills District Gazetteer, the Jaintia Hills District Gazetteer and the Garo Hills District Gazetteer. Through this branch the budding authors are encouraged to bring out their literary works for the development and promotion of Khasi and Garo literatures. Towards the development and promotion of Khasi and Garo Languages, the Government has instituted way back in 1980 the State Literary Award to recognize and award the best books published by Khasi and Garo authors. The Department also liaises with the Sahitya Akademi, Lalit Kala Akademi and Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi for promotion of their objectives in so far as it relates to our State.
