Shape: Bowl like structure, wall with circular outline and flat base Constitutient Material: Bell metal Component Parts: No separate parts exist, it has been prepared as a single piece Description: The gong has a bowl like structure, wall raised from the flat base is circular in outline, the free end is open. But the edge of the open free end has been diverted a bit inward all along the margin in the form of a circle haing the breadth of 1/2". The inside wall and the base of the gong is decorated with floral design, but the designs are not clearly visible at present. Measurements: Height: 4 and 1/4 " Base: 7 and 1/2" Diameter of the open end: 12 " Inward diversion of the edge at the margin : 1/2 " Depth of the bowl: 4 and 1/4 "

Two small circular disc like metallic structures constitute the musical instrument. The outer surface of each disc is uppish in the middle and gradually comes down and merges with the flat margin. Consequently the inner side of the disc is hollow. The margin is absolutely flat and circular. The outer surface of the disc is decorated with incised lines. But the inner surface is plain. There is a perforation at the centre of the disc. It is through this perforation, on end of the cord is introduced. A knot is given on the end of the cord to fix up the disc in the cord. The other end of the cord is also fixed up with another disc of the same type. Thus the chord possess two discs at its two ends. Measurements: Diameter of the disc at the free margin : 2"

Brief Description

It is a lengthy piece of colored cloth used by the garo women. The upper and the lower parts of the cloth are violet in color. The middle portion is red. In between these two major colours, there are two more strips of red and violet colour. These two stripes are bounded above and below all along by three lines of white threads interspered by other colors (violet and red) to demarcate these narrow stripes from the major stripes of violet and red colours. In the broad red stripe in the centre there are very light white paralellel lines at regular intervals are visible as design. In the lateral margin chain type of designing in yellow and white thread are there. In each band there are three rows. Central one is yellow followed by white - one above and the other below. There are altogether 4 inch bands along the lateral margin at a regular interval of 1/2 " from one another. Coloured frills of thread are there at the end of the lateral margins.

Component Parts: Pipe and body Constituent materials: Metal Description: The specimen is a smoking pipe of the Garos. It is divided into two parts (I) Pipe and (ii) body. Pipe: The pipe is a slender elongated tube like structure with a free passage from end to end. The outer surface is decorated with incised zig-zag lines. It attains the length of 5" with a diameter of 1/8" Body: The body assumes the form of a bell . It is hollow and open from end to end. The body maybe divided into three parts, the lower part is definitely in the shape of a ball with bigger dimension. The upper portion is also something like a bell but in everted form. In between these two parts there is a globular portion circular in outline in the middle in between the upper and the lower parts, from this middle part a short tubular body has emerged. It is also provided with a free passage through and through. This opening leads to the opening in the main body The body on its external surface is decorated with incised zig zag lines and straight parallel vertical lines (in the middle part). There is a short hook like structure with perforation in the middle of the body immediately below the short tube. Similar type of hook is there on the upper structure of the pipe. It is with the help of these wire the tube and the body are joined together to discharge their respective duty. Hooks are used to tie the wire with the body and the pipe. Measurements: Length of tube: 5 " Length of body: 1 and 1/4" Diameter of body at the lower end: 1" Diameter at the upper end : 3/4"

It is a vertically extended wooden pot attaining the height of 6 and 3/4". The pot is divided into three parts (a) stand (b) pot proper and (c.) lid Body: The pot portion stands on a circular stand having 2" in diameter. There is constriction between the stand and the body. The body proper is 4" in height having 2 and 3/4" in diameter in the spherical part from immediately above the constricted part and extending upto the free end, the pot is circular and uniform in diameter. The body is hollow and covered by a lid. Lid: The lid is a fine example of wood carving. It is 2 and 3/4" in length. There are as many as 5 circular steps of different dimensions on the body of the lid. The lid at its lower side has been carved to give rise to a circular rim like structure. This structure fits exactly in the open end of the body to serve as a lid. The entire body ( both lid, body proper and the stand) is decorated with circular thick lines in black, red and red with whitish tinge drawn in regular succession. The lid is partially broken in one side only.
