Brief Description

Component parts and Constitutient materials (I) Metallic bridge (ii) white thread (iii) ivory pieces (iv) glass beads Description: The necklase is composed of ivory and glass beads. There are 8 strings in the ornament. They are of different lengths. The lowest one attains the longest length and the succesive strings ( as they go upwards) gradually diminish in length. The upper one is therefore the shortest. The free ends of the strings at both the ends are attached with metallic bridges one at each end. These metallic bridges are short but elongated horizontally. ( there are perforations 8 in number) in a row at regular intervals all along the length. It is through these perforations, the ends of each thread is introduced so that the 8 strings find place in 8 perforations and remain distinctly separate from one another. Similar type of bridge also exist at the opposite end. The top side of both the bridges is provided with a hook like arrangement for joining the two ends together at the time of wearing. The white ivory pieces and the coloured glass beads are arranged one after another in succession while mounted on the white thread giving a distinctive look. Measurements: When fully stretched the distance between the two bridges is 13 and 1/2"

Brief Description

It is a large size heavy metallic ornament used by the Khasi women during the dance performance. The Ornament is made of silver. It is broadly divided into 3 parts such as (I) Principal chain (ii) Triangular Body (iii) pendants Principal chain: The principal chain attains the length of 26" and is circular in cross section. Its both ends are fitted with a circular structure, ending in a hollow spherical body with an opening. It is through the hollow body, a small ring has been introduced at both the ends. It is through this ring, one end of the chain is attached with the apex point of the triangular body. The other end of the chain is free. Body : The body is triangular in shape. Small ball like structures are fitted all along the margin of the body. The apex of the triangular body is provided with a circular ring for receiving the principal chain. A small metallic flower is there against this ring. The central part of the body is made of parallel metallic lines across the two vertical marginal lines. Small circular metallic bodies are placed in between the two adjacent lines touching each other thereby giving rise to a special design. This triangular body is fitted with 4 coloured stones, a large one in the centre and the smaller three at the corners of the body. The arm of the triangular body opposite to the apex are attached with three metallic pendants - two in the two corners and one at the centre. Pendants:- The pendants are attached with the triangular body with a chain. It is through these chains the individual pendant hangs from the body. The pendants are hollow, cone shaped and circular in outline. Rings of small metallic balls at regular intervals are there on the surface of the body of each pendant, as a special design. A number of short chains hang from the free ends of each pendant at regular intervals and each one is fitted with a small metallic flower studded with a stone at its free end.

Shape and size: it is vertically extended and circular in outline having a diameter of 1 and 3/4" Constituent material: Silver Description: The terminal ends of the circular ornament do not meet together. There is a gap approximately 1/2" between the two terminal ends. The ends are provided with elongated hook like structures. One end is fitted to the middle. while in the other, where there are two such structures, they are fitted one in the upper and the other in the lower end leaving the central part vacant. The ornament is slightly constricted in the middle. But the upper and the lower free margins, are more or less same in diameter. The upper surface is beautifully decorated with straight circular lines, ( in the middle of the constricted part) and minute dotted lines above and below the straight lines, Larger dotted circular lines are there along the upper and the lower margins. Leafy designs have been executed on the margin of the two free lateral ends.

Brief Description

Size: Maximum length : 16" Minimum length : 6 and 1/2" Constituent material : Cotton thread, glass beads, metallic bridges and hooks in the form of circular disc. The necklace consists of 10 strings made up with two types of glass beads. One is slender, elongated and black in colour, the other is small circular and silver grey in colour. One or two small silver grey and black glass beads lie between the two adjacent elongated black glass beads. Each string consist of a cotton cord mounted with elongated glass beads and small circular glass beads in the systematic order as mentioned above. The free ends of the cotton cord of each string is allowed to pass through a perforation of the metallic bridge at each end. There are 10 such perforations in a bridge for receiving the free ends of the ten strings. There are two such bridges one at each end of the strings. The bridges are attached with the centrally decorated metal disc through the circular hooks on its two sides. The strings vary in length between 14" and 7 and 1/2"

Brief Description

It is a necklace made up with five strings of glass beads of different colours, shades, shapes and forms. Each string is mounted on a cotton thread. The beads are arranged in systematic cross in all the strings. The larger beads are placed in the central part. The size of the beads decreases as they advance towards the terminal ends. The elongated and larger beads are mostly reddish in colour while the smaller ones are whitish and transparent to some extent. The strings are arranged in a row all along the metallic bridge with perforations at the lower margin. The upper margin is provided with a hook. The two ends of the strings are attached with two such bridges. A fews inches below each bridge, the cords which hold the beads are passed through a flat piece of bone with perfoartions in a row from end to end so that all the strings remain separate from one another. All the strings are not equal in length. The lowest one is positioned in the largest and the rest gradually decreases in length as they advance in position along the metallic bridge.
