Brief Description

It is a large size heavy metallic ornament used by the Khasi women during the dance performance. The Ornament is made of silver. It is broadly divided into 3 parts such as (I) Principal chain (ii) Triangular Body (iii) pendants Principal chain: The principal chain attains the length of 26" and is circular in cross section. Its both ends are fitted with a circular structure, ending in a hollow spherical body with an opening. It is through the hollow body, a small ring has been introduced at both the ends. It is through this ring, one end of the chain is attached with the apex point of the triangular body. The other end of the chain is free. Body : The body is triangular in shape. Small ball like structures are fitted all along the margin of the body. The apex of the triangular body is provided with a circular ring for receiving the principal chain. A small metallic flower is there against this ring. The central part of the body is made of parallel metallic lines across the two vertical marginal lines. Small circular metallic bodies are placed in between the two adjacent lines touching each other thereby giving rise to a special design. This triangular body is fitted with 4 coloured stones, a large one in the centre and the smaller three at the corners of the body. The arm of the triangular body opposite to the apex are attached with three metallic pendants - two in the two corners and one at the centre. Pendants:- The pendants are attached with the triangular body with a chain. It is through these chains the individual pendant hangs from the body. The pendants are hollow, cone shaped and circular in outline. Rings of small metallic balls at regular intervals are there on the surface of the body of each pendant, as a special design. A number of short chains hang from the free ends of each pendant at regular intervals and each one is fitted with a small metallic flower studded with a stone at its free end.

Shape and size: it is vertically extended and circular in outline having a diameter of 1 and 3/4" Constituent material: Silver Description: The terminal ends of the circular ornament do not meet together. There is a gap approximately 1/2" between the two terminal ends. The ends are provided with elongated hook like structures. One end is fitted to the middle. while in the other, where there are two such structures, they are fitted one in the upper and the other in the lower end leaving the central part vacant. The ornament is slightly constricted in the middle. But the upper and the lower free margins, are more or less same in diameter. The upper surface is beautifully decorated with straight circular lines, ( in the middle of the constricted part) and minute dotted lines above and below the straight lines, Larger dotted circular lines are there along the upper and the lower margins. Leafy designs have been executed on the margin of the two free lateral ends.

Size: The jacket attains the length of 28" and breadth 18" Constituent materials: Cotton cloth & coloured thread. Description: The jacket is very colourful and decorated. It is a thick one used during winter months. The jacket is provided with a lining of colourful cloth. It has got no special cutting. A "V" shaped neck for both the front and back is there, with red lining meant for introducing head at the time of wearing. The lateral sides of the jacket is straight from the beginning to end. Of course two openings are there on the two lateral sides for introducing hands through them. It is a sleeveless jacket. The lower margin is decorated with elongated frills of a glittering substance of cheap commericial variety. Similar materials have also been used along the border of the openings meant for the hand. From immediately below the chest, there is an opening all along its length in the middle extending upto the free end. There is no such opening at the back. In the chest region there are three distinct embroidered bands at regular interval fitted with frills at their lateral sides. The body colour of the jacket is black. Beautifully embroidered floral designs are there almost throughout the whole front portion with special reference to shoulder region and the lower part. A broad red band is also there near the lower free margin. This part is decorated with floral designs as well. The embroidery has been executed with the help of colourful threads. Like the front side, the backside is also beautifully embroidered for decorating the piece

Size: Maximum length 27" Component parts : Handle and blade Constituent material: wood and iron Description: It is a heavy and large cutting tool consisting of two parts: handle and blade Handle: The handle is made of wood, slightly flat, I.e oval in cross section. Its free end attains minimum diameter (1") and the maximum diameter (1 and 3/4") at the opposite end where its receives the blade. Total length of the handle is 11". It is fitted with two sets of plaited cane coiling, one in the middle (with 2 coiling) and the other in the closed end ( with 3 coiling) the lower slender part (I.e tang) of the heavy iron blade is inserted into the handle at its broader end very tightly. Blade: The iron blade is curved and attains the length of 16". Its maximum breadth is 2 and 1/2" at the free end. There is a depress area in the free margin, at the end, to give a definite shape to the blade. Size: Maximum Length : 120 and 1/2" Component parts: Handle and blade Constituent materials; Iron and wood. Description: The handle is elongated in form and circular in diameter. It attains the length of 4 and 3/4" and having the diameter of 1". The body of the handle is decorated with a number of incised circles. The free end is squarely cut. The opposite end is provided with a vertical groove for setting the blade in position. The blade is broad, thin and flat. It attains the length of 6" and its maximum breadth is 2 and 1/2". It has two working edges. One of the edges is sharp and straight, while the other edge on the opposite side is deeply serated. The free end of the blade is squarely cut. Measurements: Maximum length of the tool : 10 and 1/2" Maximum length of the handle : 4 and 3/4" Maximum length of the blade : 6" Maximum breadth of the tool : 2 and 1/4"
